DSPPA | Powers the Sound at Guangzhou’s Home Court in Huadu Dongfeng Sports Center

Abstract: DSPPA has completed the professional sound reinforcement system upgrade for Huadu Dongfeng Sports Center, providing stable, full-coverage high-fidelity audio to support all YueBA home tournament events.

On May 16, the 8th round of the Guangdong City Basketball League (YueBA) kicked off at Huadu Dongfeng Sports Center, where the Guangzhou team defeated Jiangmen 8662. This was the team's first home fixture at the venue this season, and it extended the side's winning streak to seven consecutive games.

Prior to the match, DSPPA completed a full-scale upgrade of the venue’s professional sound reinforcement system. The upgraded system delivers professional, intelligent full-venue audio coverage, ensuring consistently clear and stable sound quality for the entire duration of the event.




Large Venue, High Demands


Serving as the official home court for the Guangzhou team, Huadu Dongfeng Sports Center houses a main competition arena with a total area of over 20,000 square meters and a seating capacity of more than 7,000. The venues large-scale architectural form and dense spectator layout presented three key acoustic design challenges:


  • Complex reverberation issues arising from the vaulted dome structure and highly reflective interior surfaces, which can directly degrade speech intelligibility

  • Uniform wide-area sound coverage requirements across all spectator seating zones, including both near-court and upper-tier areas

  • Stringent demands for long-duration operational stability and reliability to support consecutive, uninterrupted sporting events




Precision-Zoned Sound Design


To address these acoustic challenges, DSPPA conducted on-site acoustic surveys and developed a custom-designed professional sound reinforcement solution adapted to the venue’s unique architectural conditions.

The system features a ceiling-suspended surround line array layout, installed along the structural catwalks of the arena’s ceiling. Dozens of dedicated loudspeaker clusters are deployed across the venue, with each cluster integrated with line array loudspeakers, subwoofers and full-range speakers to deliver full-frequency sound coverage.






How the Acoustic Challenges Were Addressed


This design achieves precision zoned sound coverage across all spectator seating zones and the central competition court:


  • The directional line array loudspeaker system delivers focused sound coverage for audience seating areas, effectively suppressing unwanted reverberation and significantly improving speech intelligibility

  • Full-range loudspeakers provide targeted supplementary sound reinforcement for the court playing area, ensuring clear and intelligible event announcements for on-court players and match officials

  • Subwoofers extend low-frequency response and enhance low-end impact, creating a more immersive on-site atmosphere during key game segments including player entrance ceremonies




The LA1420+LA1420S line array loudspeaker system and D6566 two-way full-range loudspeaker adopted for this project are both officially certified and listed in the German EASE acoustic simulation database. This accreditation validates the rigor of the system design and ensures high accuracy of pre-construction acoustic performance simulation and prediction.

The line array loudspeaker system integrates high-performance passive loudspeaker units with high-power subwoofers. It delivers crisp, long-throw sound reproduction with excellent speech definition, supports flexible deployment configurations, and maintains stable, reliable audio performance across a wide range of professional application scenarios.




D6563/D6564/D6565/D6566 Professional Two-Way Full-Range Speaker


This professional two-way full-range loudspeaker produces clear, high-output sound reproduction with an extended wide frequency response range, ensuring balanced full-spectrum acoustic performance. It is highly applicable for sound reinforcement applications in large-scale sports venues and similar large-space environments.




The solution is equipped with a full set of professional audio processing and control peripherals, including a 32-channel professional digital mixing console, an 8-channel intelligent power sequencing controller, true-diversity wireless microphone systems and professional audio isolators.




Audio isolators effectively eliminate ground loop noise arising from the venue’s complex multi-load power supply environment, while the true-diversity wireless microphone systems ensure stable, anti-interference audio signal transmission even in high-capacity, densely populated venues. The intelligent power sequence controller implements standardized sequential power-up and power-down procedures, effectively preventing precision audio equipment from being damaged by inrush current and transient power surges. Working in tandem, these supporting devices constitute a highly stable, intelligently managed audio control architecture.
